How I Turn a Blank Baseplate into Pixel Art Magic

How I Turn a Blank Baseplate into Pixel Art Magic

From Idea to Brick – The Brickform Creative Process

Ever wonder how a Brickform design comes to life? Each piece starts as nothing more than a blank LEGO-compatible baseplate and ends as a colorful, intricate work of pixel art. Here is a behind the scenes look at how I take an idea and turn it into something magical you can hang on your wall.

✏️ Step 1: Inspiration Strikes

Every design begins with inspiration, it could be a beloved cityscape, an iconic pop culture reference, or an abstract pattern that feels just right. I sketch out rough concepts digitally, imagining how they might translate into 1x1 studs or tiles on a baseplate.

🎨 Step 2: Choosing Colors

Picking the perfect palette is crucial. Too many colors, and the design feels chaotic. Too few, and it lacks depth. I use a mix of LEGO and LEGO-compatible bricks to get just the right shades, sometimes hunting for hard to find hues that make the whole piece pop.

Make the bricks looks more like Lego

🧱 Step 3: Laying the First Bricks

There is something exciting about clicking down that very first stud, it is the moment the vision starts becoming reality. I work systematically, row by row, making sure every brick aligns perfectly.

It needs to be a mosaic made with lego compatible parts

🔍 Step 4: Details Make the Design

The last 10% of any piece is where the magic really happens. I step back, review the design, and tweak small details, swapping out a color here or adding a slight gradient there. It is these details that make a Brickform piece feel vibrant and alive.

🖼️ Step 5: Ready for Display

Finally, the piece is carefully cleaned, photographed, and prepared for its new home, whether it’s a wall, a shelf, or as a thoughtful gift.
